Hypnotism and mesmerism does work (to an extent). However, it doesn't work the way that most people expect. It isn't like in the movies and not everyone is able to be hypnotized. Hypnotism is influencing another person and can be performed but only on people who tend to be open to suggestion.

I do believe in hypnosis and I feel it can be helpful for minor issues like test anxiety, smoking cessation, memory improvement, etc. It cannot be used to completely control another's actions and only those predisposed to barking like a dog or clucking like a chicken, will do it under hypnosis.

Yes, the subconscious is more powerful than the conscious due to the fact that what we no longer need to consider consciously is then held in our subconscious. Loosely, it's like conscious mind is RAM and subconscious mind is on the hard drive in hidden files (except that conscious RAM mind eventually gets stored in a subconscious HD mind hidden file and not emptied to the recycle bin). Then if you know how to access the hidden files they can sometimes be altered or enhanced.

I hope this helps :)

Our entire life is determined by our sub-conscious/unconscious mind. If you wonder what is in your sub-conscious, just observe your life. And if you are wondering how things get into the sub-conscious mind, it is by way of the conscious mind.
Mesmerism and hypnosis are just examples of how one's sub-conscious can be influenced by another person in a way that can be seen by an observer. Studying these techniques is an aid in understanding how the sub-conscious works.

This is completely untrue. There is no fact that the human mind can be controlled by external sources. You only think that because the book was controlling your mind,

tsk, tsk,

some people....
