On different levels, you're asking questions. Sure, the Merriam-Webster is one definition. But I'm inferring that you want a working, practical definition. So I'll give you mine- take facts, exclude irrelevant factoids, and see if you can get to a higher-level truth. Very esoteric, very subjective, hence subject to a high level of fallibility.
Symbolic Logic is a class that lies mostly in philosophy, but overlaps a bit with mathematics and even anthropology.
Sometimes you use what you've learned in one area to do something better in another area. If you've learned that changing the oil in your car helps the motor last longer, you'll do the same thing if you get a different sort of vehicle.
Sometimes it's much more difficult to grasp. If you find that Tchaikovsky wrote nice music and so did Bach, then maybe you won't have so much trouble with Ravel or Holst.
And if someone you care about challenges you about something, like perhaps a definition of "logic," you have little experience with the concept of "definition" as it relates to the concept of "logic."
Ah, I think you already know, but I hope I have helped you.

I'll say that logic is the method used which will determine the most suitable action to take from any possible action tested against a list of suitable conditions.

The process of premises leading to conclusions. How A leads to B leads to C. And for laypersons, it refers to what "makes sense."
