No what makes you think that? He did blow a big save last year (that ended the Padres season) but he's still (statistically) the best closer of all-time (yes even better than Mo, go look at stats). Hoffman wouldn't just up and retire like that, he'd give a year notice, or a few months notice, he loves the fans, he wouldn't do that to them.

Nope he didn't retire, but when it's all said and done Rivera will be the greatest of all time. He's just hoping to stay around long enough to prevent that from happening. Mo can pitch until he's 45!!!

Nope, he's gonna keep saving games for the Pads for at least another year...or until his arm falls apart and there's no difference between his fastball and that great changeup anymore.

Don't think so. He reached the vesting milestone for his 2008 option, so he should be back next year without fuss.

No. He did, however, have surgery to clean out some bone chips in his elbow. He should be ready to go this spring.
