Teeth grow in by pushing into spaces where the pressure against them is less. No one has perfectly straight teeth, and some people's crooked teeth actually interfere with proper chewing and/or biting. Also, sometimes teeth are straightened for cosmetic reasons.

As humans evolved, the brain case got bigger and the jaws got smaller, and the teeth became crowded. Some people have mutations in which they do not have certain teeth develop at all such as lateral incisors (right next to front teeth) or wisdom teeth (3rd molars).

Orthodontists aren't "required" to have straight teeth, but it would be nice to see someone who is aware and conscious of their teeth.
