Group I elements (Na, K, Rb etc) react violently with Cl2 to form the salt. The metals burn with a bright green flame. The reaction with Br2 is probably not as violent as the bromine is in liquid form, but probably will generate enough heat to vaporize the bromine. The reaction of the Group II elements (Mg, Ca, Sr etc) is probably less spectacular, but should still go pretty rapidly.
