Money does a lot of good. Being poor is no fun, I grew up in a poor family. So I was suppose to be happy because I didn't have money? I understand that filthy rich people are crazy and greedy about their money. People kill for money and tons of stuff. But then in that case would it be "greed is the root of all evil"?

Your thoughts....

Not money but the power it represents is the root of the evil. Money is just the messenger.

Money did not always exist!

In those prehistoric times, did evil exist? Yup. People still killed, stole, and what have you. So you can't blame money. Money is just so inegtrated into nearly everything of importance that we do in our civilization that it seems that way.

Hate is closer to being a root of all evil, but wouldn't be the reason you fibbed to your parents as a kid. The religious would call it sinfulness, the reason why we would stray from what is right. Others might simply assert that it's human nature to test our limits, including what is right or wrong, or what we'll be caught at or get away with.

All of our wrongdoing is like a behavioral calculation of perceived gains vs. perceived risk of losses - an ultimately selfish point of view.

The real root could be natural human selfishness.

It depends how you use the money and how important money is to you to consider it the root of all evil. God doesn't care if you are rich. What he does care about, is if you are stingy and don't help the poor and needy and worship money above Him or anyone else. Our society places to much emphasis on trying to get rich, but you can be rich in many other ways. I grew up poor too, but I am now disabled and poor again. If I had it easy growing up and everything handed to me.....I wouldn't have made it this far in my life. It taught me to be stronger. I know many people, including my brother-in-law that are filthy rich and look down on others like they were peons. That is not a good person. Yes, people kill for money, but many times it's for drugs, alcohol and luxuries that they find the easy way out..which is robbery. They will all pay a dear price for that. If you want to become rich, then work towards it, but don't forget others or think you are better than others. That might get you into Hell instead of Heaven.

Money itself is not the root of all evil, it's the LOVE of money that's the root of all evil. Being greedy is the root of all evil. I personally would love to be rich because you don't have to worry about how am I gonna pay for my bills, food, rent, etc. Being poor sucks.

I don't believe that its being poor or rich that makes one happy but the state of life. Where love, friendship and happiness come from is real wealth. Every culture had a form of money, but in indigenous cultures everyone takes care of everyone, and the meaning of life is more important than having wealth. Those people do not end up needing help because they didn't have anything to begin with but because the industrial world or modern ideas were brought into their communities and destruction begins. The children don't want to learn to farm or take care of cattle but instead see what the city brings others, travel there and end up in low paying jobs. I know it is a bit different from what you asked, but i think it also says something for how others live. Living off the land used to be what a lot of the worlds people only needed, now we are run by money. If you want to know more about indigenous cultures and helping to keep them alive you can contact me through my website (www.shanistudios.com) or also contact me about and organization i'm helping to start called the Indigenous Peoples International (or IPI).

This phrase comes from the scripture 1 Timothy 6:10 which states: The "love" of money is the root of all evil.

Also, Ecclesiastes 10:19 has a part of it that says "money answers all things."

Therefore, money in itself isn't evil. The evil comes from the person who handles it and how they choose to apply it. One of the best examples are philanthropists like Oprah who use riches to help others. Yes, she lives well, but she also understands that she has a responsibility to others because of the amount of funds she possesses.

So live, prosper and be happy.

I am relatively poor, so for me money wouldn't be any sort of evil at ALL. Money would get me out of my current situation in a flash. I could help my family, and others I care about. But I have worked in businesses where I had rich clients and they were the most ungrateful, unhappy, demanding people. You think they would be happy, not having bills to worry about or food to eat or not having to think about where they were going to live a year from now. But no.

Greed IS the root of all evil. Money is not bad. Only people who desperately want money but can't get it say that it is evil. At least as far as I'm concerned.

the root of all evil is people, not money. Would money cause a stranger to a rape a girl without mugging her, or kill someone that dumped them? Money can be good or bad, but I wish people would stop saying it's the root of all evil. You think the world would be a perfect place without it? Passion, or lack of, is the root of all evil.

I think emtions are the root of all evil. Every emotion, happy, sad, jealous, greedy, whatever, causes the spark that some people can take too far.
Money is very tempting to blame because money is paper proof of power, but some people can have lots of money and control themselves with it.
Money is just part of my life but I don't let it run my life, thats my beliefs.
Others will have other opinions, but thats mine and I'm stickin' to it!

Good question!
