he's only had one poopy diaper early this morning. he is formula fed. he has passed some gas today, and he has not been crying like his tummy was upset. is this normal or something i should call his doctor about.
don't say I need to nurse because i tried the first two days and he screamed the whole time and would not even try to latch on. I really feel more comfortable bottle feeding him.

My son, when he was brand new, would only poop once a day. For awhile it was once every two days! My doctor said as long as it's no longer than 3 days, there was no need to call. Even at 3 days, they wouldn't see him but just ask about any signs of constipation, and to feed him extra liquids.

If you suspect he's got a stool but hasn't been able to pass it, swipe a q-tip in vaseline and then lightly treat the inside of his rectum with it.

If you hear him passing gas, that's good too! Means things are moving and shaking down there.

Some babies don't make a bowel movement everyday. For some babies it's every few days. The doc said to call if it has been more than four or five days to be safe. My daughter is formula fed as well. I am sure it is fine. If he doesn't make a bowel movement in a few days and his stomach seems hard call the dr before you do any constipation remedies. Many people are quick to think their baby is constipated when they are not. Good luck and congrats!!!

My guy often only goes every other day. The better the formula you feed him, the less waste product he has to expel. If he's not uncomfortable then relax, it will come out when it comes out!

However if he goes more than 4 days or starts being uncomfortable, ring your pediatricians office and ask what they recommend, there are a ton of tricks to get a baby to poo if he starts to have issues.

As long as when he has a bowel movement it is soft and not hard or in pellets he's okay. I had to formula feed my daughter after 6 weeks and I often worried about the frequency of her bowel movements. Just remember it's not necessarily the frequency, but the product...as long as he's not in discomfort and his stools are soft, all is okay :) GL!

one poop a day is normal. If it gets hard or pebbley or it seems like he is struggling to get it out, then you should worry. Even if he only does one, once every two days, as long as the consistency is soft/runny then everything should be fine.

Congrats on the new baby!

I am not in the medical field, I am just a mom, so that being said.

Formula fed babys sometimes don't have as many poops as nersed babys. If you are realy concerned you should ask your doctor, but it does not sound like an emergency.

Don't let other people push you into nersing if you don't want to.
