I have a hard coal stove that is realy hard to get started but once its started it cant be beat.
I just spent 5 hours trying to get this stove going to no avail. i use Buckweat coal and i seen in an online forum that alot of people use what is called a mouse lighter it's like a bag of something and you just surround it with coal and light it,no muss no fuss.
I'm open to any sugustions i heard some people use a small propane torch to get tht hard coal started.
Thankyou in advance and i will pick a best answer 10 points :)

Have you ever tried the fire starters that are sold in stores? Usually located near charcoal and other items like that.

Pieces can be broke off so that you use only what you need to.

This is an example of one, there are many different types.

hope that this helps!

Place kenneling under coal you know small piece's of wood like a camp fire. I use old paper and small wood chips. get this going a little bit and than put your coal in. it will burn. I always light mine from the bottom so I don't get smoke in the house. You can also bank a fire this is when you go to bed at nite and don't wont your fire to go all the way out over nite. You just spread the fire a little and than place some ash over it. It will keep hot ash alnite. In the morning just stir it up some and place more coal on it. Open your hamper it will need lots of air to pick up and burn. Also when you bank it at nite you may wont to close the damper about half way good luck. I was raised up with this kind of heat and if you get the hang of it. You can control it where the house has some heat from it at all times.
