This is actually something I have been thinking about alot since the tape was released -- the knee jerk reaction of most people is to say "he deserves what he gets", but when you stop and think about it the reality is that this was a private conversation between Mr. Chapman and his son. While what he said was wrong - he felt he was conversing with someone that he could trust and that the conversation would remain private. As someone else mentioned - when we are angry we say things in private that we would never say in public and would be mortified if anyone ever heard them.
Everyone has a lapse moment where our common sense gets put on the back burner and we say things we don't mean or that we know are wrong. The conversation that has been posted does not appear complete (it's starts right out talking about the girlfriend -- no hello, or any chit chat leading up) so we really don't know what lead up to that rant, nor do we know the truth about the problems they may or may not have been having with the girl in question.
So after much soul searching - I would say no he should not lose his show over this. He spoke in anger - and is trying to make amends.

That really is a good question, and I am torn on this one. It was a private conversation. Unlike the Don Imus thing (which he keeps getting compared to.) I have said a few things out of anger to friends, that if it were put out for the public to hear I would be mortified. Sometimes people don't think before they talk. I do not buy the whole thing that it was taken out of context. I haven't heard the whole tape, but I have heard a lot of it, and from what I could tell he was pretty clear.
On the other hand though, he did say that. Its one thing to think something, but to voice it is a whole other story. And he did admit on the tape that they used that word a lot, so he didn't want people to hear it and think he was racist. Well in todays society using that term is pretty racist. Though I don't think anybody should use it. Black or not.
He was not fired though. His show was just canceled. Personally I have gotten a bit tired of it, and am not exactly glad to see it go. I have heard A&E has been thinking about canceling it, this just gave them a reason. In time the show could come back, who knows.

Well like it was said not a real suprise, Do I really care what he said. Yes and No. He is put out as an example for people. I think he blemished that even though most already knew it.
He is a celeb so he is held accountable for what he does in his private life like it or not just like any other celeb.
The funny thing is they ran off Imus Jessie and Al went on a crusade for calling someone a nappy headed Ho. Which technically isnt a racist statement, any one can have a nappy head and I know plenty of white hoes.
But were where they when that guy I think his name is Isahah washington off grey's anatonmy when he made slurs against gays? people where definding him. Falls under the same hate crime and racial slurs, but he pretty much got a free pass on it. Yes he ended up loosing his job, but I only think that happened becuase he had a hard time getting along with the rest of the cast in general. But he was given a role a few weeks later in a movie. He was even on TV saying he couldnt believe he lost his job over that...
Why are they not up in arms about the rappers using the N word? If you want people to stop using a word that is offensive to you then you 1st need to get your own people to stop using it. When are they going to go after the rappers and put them out of business for doing the same.

I don’t think so, if it was not in public – I would ask how did that leak, but then again I am not the sponsor and A&E has to bow before the almighty dollar – if I was Chapman I would sue the heck out who ever leaked a privet conversation and for the record recording someone with out their knowledge or a warrant is against the law.

Hun(not meant in a condescending way),the constitution isn't worth the paper it's written on anymore.Free speech,Miranda rights,ect... mean nothing if you can't afford a lawyer to protect those so called rights. In Virginia they don't have to read you your miranda rights.
I served my country for 4 years in the Army only to come back & have the very rights I was supposed to be protecting to be violated because I didn't have the money for a lawyer & court appointed lawyers are a joke.
Whether it's private or public.If a person can't say what they want,they aren't free!!!

i think its complete bull that hes getting his career put on the line for a private conversation he had in the privacy of his home or whatever ! Everyone can be hypocrites right now but when it comes to it behind closed doors someone always says something racist even if you "DIDNT" mean it! Freedom of speech baby damn it sucks how it can be turned on you! I feel bad for him and personally ima fan of his, A&E need to let him keep his job its totally unfair if he does loose it !

Basically, the image that Dog cultivated was that although he worked in a tough business with a lot of bad guys, he was something of a softie. I haven't seen a lot of his shows but the ones I have seen he comes across of a sort of social worker lecturing people to change their ways (while he was hauling them off to jail of course) and a family guy. He was a media savvy guy who new cultivate an image of a tough guy with a big heart. That image is now ruined.
Basically, no one will want to watch the show anymore because they don't like him anymore (personally, I can't say I blame them). The network isn't concerned about the morality of this. They now that they are going to lose viewers and because of that they are going to lose advertising and they are getting rid of him for business reasons.

No. Freedom of speech should be protected and exercised. This was a private conversation recorded by his son so I suppose he could sue the son for damages. I think that's an obvious case which could be won.

No, because his son and girlfriend did that to set him up. It was a private conversation; no one would like for their private conversation taken out of context and told to others. If Dog wanted people in on his private conversation he would have broad casted it himself.
