Lets face it folks Notre Dame has been the most overrated team in college football history for the past decade.....when was the last time they won a national championship?.... no as a matter of fact.... when was the last time they won a bowl game? or beat a respectable opponent?

(21-15 before Willingham was fired)

( 20-14 Charlie Weis now)

Unless Notre Dame fixes the issues they have recruiting, they are going nowhere. They are a lot like Stanford and the Ivy league schools--the academic requirements are so strict they cannot keep the athletes who would put their program over the top year in and year out.

Heard another interesting comment/theory today: Notre Dame is in this position this year because of Charlie Weiss and his NFL background, in particular, the NFL way of playing your starters no matter what. Last year ND had numerous blowout victories in which they could have gotten the frosh and sophs some much needed game experience. But Weiss and his staff played Quinn and the rest of the seniors the entire time. All the big programs figure a way to get the young guys some game time. Look at Florida as an example: Tebow and Percy Harvin got plenty of game reps last season and it shows this season. Michigan, OSU, Oregon, USC, Oklahoma, LSU...the list goes on, but doesn't include ND.

Weiss also put the hex on himself when he stated at his hiring press conference, "Having me on the sidelines calling plays is worth 10 pts a game." Weiss had gastric bypass to get rid of his gut, now he needs the same procedure done on his ego.

They have gone down the toilet. I can't believe that it took them 3 overtimes to lose to Navy, a team that they have owned since 1963, a team that they haven't lost to in my lifetime, expect for this past Saturday. Now I wouldn't say that Notre Dame has been overrated for the past decade. But it has seemed to me that up until this season, they have been winning with Charlie Weis as thier head coach, but now it looks like he could be fired after this disappointing season is over. I guess if you really want the answers to your questions, you can look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre_Dame_Fighting_Irish_football . But hey just because they aren't having a good season this year, they could have one next year. It seems to me that Notre Dame has lost thier really good players to either graduation, or the NFL draft. So maybe once the football season ends for them, and we know that they aren't going to a Bowl game, they should fo out, and try to sign incoming freshman for thier football team next season, and maybe they can get back to thier winning ways, with or without Charlie Weis. Now I am not sure who you count or don't as a respectable opponent. But try looking at that site abbove for the answers for your other 2 questions.

ND will eventually get another good recruiting class, and then go back to beating teams like Navy, and they will be in the top 25 just because they are ND.

Excellent analysis Silverbulletday, Why did Willingham get cautious and lose his audacity as a coach? Why did they fire him instead of smacking him upside the head to get him fighting?

Now, why don't they fire Chuck?
