ISDN is a relatively ancient digital communications method. Each channel has a bandwidth of 64k, a bit faster than a good dialup connection. Typically you would order a Basic Rate Interface or BRI is it's known in "phone speak". That would give you 128k of bandwidth.

Pricing depends upon the local telco's tariffs. Generally the price is linked to your distance form the CO. You'll have to call and ask. Some telcos charge a monthly fee plus added charges for the volume of data. Others charge a flat fee with no data charge. Obviously you want a line that doesn't charge for your volume!

You'll also need an ISP that accepts ISDN connections. The telco may offer internet access that way but not all do any more. Unless there's a local ISP with ISDN lines it's not going to do you any good.

ISDN can generally be provisioned anywhere and if you have no other options at all it may be worth looking into it. Compare the costs to just running a second phone line and setting up a bonded dialup connection with your ISP. That may be the cheaper alternative though it will be slighly slower.

ISDN is usually faster than dialup but typically very expensive due to the cost of the equipment. Where ARE you?

ISDN is faster than dial up but you definitely do need special equipment such as ISDN modem. Check for ISP that offers it. I think speed is about 64kbs - 128 kbs
