Sometimes when I'm probably half asleep I see a huge spider coming down from my ceiling and I jump up but nothings there. This is strange cause I don't dislike spiders. Is this paranoia? I don't understand why I'm hallucinating at night sometimes..any ideas?

Well no matter how strange it may seem to you but it is still a dream. You are dreaming and seeing the reality in the same time because you are half a sleep that makes you believe that it's not a dream but hallucination. Our brain try to overcome our phobias(in your case-arachnophobia(painful fear of spiders)) while sleeping so that we can face them up in our dreams and try to deal with them.Unfortunately we can't control this(or at least most of the people) and this dreams turn into nightmares.

Hi, I have night terrrors and sometimes they are in the form of hallucinations. Sometimes I will think I see people in my room with guns pointed at my head or I will see a shape (small person) hunched over and I will think it's so real I'll have to turn on a light. Sometimes it is just some clothes at the end of the bed and sometimes it is absoltuely nothing. (BTW Those are the mild ones... at other times I think people are chasing me or there's a fire, and I'll actually get up and run around and scream and wake people up to help me and sometimes go OUTSIDE without ever realizing it's not real, until I wake up).

So your hallucinations sound like one part of my night terrors. If I were you I would look up night terrors on the internet or ask your doctor about them, however that will mostly help you understand what they are better, but I have seen everyone about this and there is no real explanation or cure. :( (Everyone's told me it's genetic/ biological, NOT psychological ... nothing traumatic has ever happened to me! So I understand why you think it's strange you see spiders when you've had no bad experiences with them... it's baffling but it happens.)

A doctor can give you medicine that makes you go to sleep more smoothly so that your mind isn't as disturbed. And there are life changes you can make like better dietary habits, handling stress better, regular exercise, and especially a better/ more consistent and sufficient sleeping schedule, which lessens the night terrors because it's your mind's way of telling you it's too overloaded and you haven't been taking the best care of yourself (accidentally of course). Good luck, I feel for you because the same thing happens to me and it's so freaky and weird.

This happens to me all the time! You are not at all alone.

This happens in a particular stage of falling asleep. I get this more when I am slightly stressed. I think it's because I would normally not be awake in this stage if I wasn't stressed.

It will only be a spider because when you're in this stage your mind says, "oh yeah spider" It will change to something else.

This used to scare me, but now I understand a little bit more about it so I sigh and turn over and close my eyes now.

Hallucinations that occur while falling asleep are called hypnagogic hallucinations. They are common and considered normal. Hallucinations that occur immediately upon awakening are called hypnopompic hallucinations. Hallucinations that occur in the period between sleep and full wakefulness are nothing to worry about. If you hearing, seeing, smelling or feeling things that are not there during periods when you're fully awake then there might be a problem.

Shailyn, without understanding extra information it seems such as you have the occasional sleep paralysis. once you sleep, there's a swap on your suggestions that disconnects the area the place you do what you think of.in any different case your physique might act out each little thing you dream approximately. So once you're experiencing those moments, that "swap" hasn't completely became on yet. i don't be attentive to ways old you're so i will save this clean...i've got skilled some situations the place i presumed I in simple terms dozed off and then began doing beside the point issues.I knew it replace into incorrect yet I in simple terms could no longer end.It sucks!!! as long as this would not ensue on a on a daily basis foundation you're able to be advantageous.do no longer concern too lots approximately it.

Its a common and fairly normal condition called "hypnagogia"-- a $10 word that refers to half-asleep/half-awake state some people experience. In this state you may see dream images, hear and even feel things that aren't there.

Some people suggest that the phenomenon of "alien abduction" can be attributed to people becoming confused by their sleep imagery intruding on them when they "think" they are fully awake.

I used to hear people talking in what I thought was an unknown language just as I fell asleep. I know other people who have seen people who weren't there. It can be scary, but its not real...

This sort of thing happen to me as well. I suggest that you get an appointment with your Dr. and speak about some medicine to ease you to sleep as it sounds like your slipping into the REM (dream) level of sleep to quickly and shifting back out, this is a form of insomnia and can make you physically sick when allowed to continue for a prolonged period. Best wishes!

There's this period between awake and asleep that some people experience 'dreams'

For me, I find myself moving quickly (roller coaster or running or something) and then I trip, which causes me to jump in bed.

That's a possible explanation, I forget what that period of sleep is called off the top of my head.

Are you taking any medications? I was taking a med for pain and every once in a while I would see things that were not really there. When I linked the medication to what I was seeing, the information said it was a serious side effect.
