Walking around Universal Citywalk and Downtown Disney is free, lots of things going on to interest a 6 year old, but not an all day thing.

To be honest in Orlando cheap is not good. I would recommend if your going to Disney, The best Experience is to stay onsite, Even the value resorts are better then most resorts outside of Disney. I would recommend to contact a Travel Agent from http://www.vacationsnbeyond.com

There is a manmade beach at Kissimmee Lakeside. It has a childrens splash area, picnic tables and bbq's (you take your own food).

Celeberatiion is a nice place to visit. At Christmas they have snow falling and in the summer they have water play areas. You can get a packed lunch and sit at the lakeside on the rocking chairs.

Crazy golf might be fun and not too expensive.

There are lots of parks and lakes to explore too.
