Life in the 80's wasn't based around disco, disco ended around 1978-1979, while there were some songs on the Billboard Hot 100 that sounded like disco but they didn't last much past 1981.

We weren't into retro, we were too busy inventing something new, like techno, new wave, rap, and a new television channel called MTV.

We saw the birth of the Rubik's Cube, Pac Man, leg warmers, the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, the fall of the Berlin wall, a attempted Presidential assassination, and a new music medium called the Compact Disc.

The 80's weren't based around Disco, Retro, or Drive In's; it was more based (at least for teenagers) the Mall, Skating Rinks, and Video Arcades. I can't give you an adults perspective because I was a kid in those days.

I had a great time in the 80's,in my early 20's in the UK
These bands were popular--Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Sting,Nik Kershaw, culture club ,Wham!etc etc
TV shows-- Dynasty, Dallas, A-Team, Knight Rider. (Shows started showing women as powerful rich b***ches rather than just ornamentation.)
Guys had longer hair then, some in what we now laughingly call a 'mullet'. A lot of girls in England had short hair like Princess Di. Later in the decade big perms for girls became fashionable. Make up was more obvious than today and big shoulder pads and big glittery earrings were common.
maggie Thatcher was the UK prime minister and Ronald reagan was the US president, and they were good buddies. In the early 80's a lot of teens though Reagan would pick a fight with the Russians and that we'd all be nuked. A lot of 80's action movies have Russians as the 'bad guys' because of the Cold War.

the 80's were rad. there was still a lot of drug use going on. kidnapping was big. there were dance clubs and stuff but disco died out in the 80's. Reagan was president for most of the 80's. denim was big especially jordache jeans and indoor malls became a huge deal !!!

The 80's were the end of disco, it started the punk rock, and dance music that was more like Prince and Vanity 6 not "disco"....That's when the "hair bands" started like Poison, Motley Crue and Bon Jovi.....and I wasn't into the "punk" bands but I did like The Cult....

Bright colors, cardigans, penny loafers, jean jackets, big hair, alternative music. The list is long. Go to VH1, I love the 80's.
