Helton didn't win because the system is flawed. The Gold Glove award works like a subscription to a magazine: you get the first issue and then the rest come in the mail. It should be based on defensive stats alone such as Errors and Zone Rating, etc. Helton got robbed and he's not the 1st and he wont be the last sadly enough.

Well you can't judge by errors. If a guy has 1,000 chances (this is purely hypothetical) and he makes 10 errors. I'd want him to win more than the guy who made 7 errors in 500 chances. You have to look at Fielding percentage, and two other stats, that are widely unknown. Zone rating which is "The percentage of balls fielded by a player in his typical defensive 'zone'". As well as Range factor "Range Factor ((PO + A) divided by innings)". If you look at the numbers. When it comes to those three categories, this is how it looks.

FPCT
Lee: Ranked 4th
Helton: Ranked 1st

Range Factor
Lee: Ranked 9th
Helton: Ranked 1st

Zone Rating
Lee: Ranked 6th
Helton: Ranked 2nd

Helton was better in all of those categories. Plus Helton played more innings, had more chances, more put-outs, more assists, and more double plays. Helton was literally better in veeyr category (there's no arguing that). It's a popularity contest. The voters don't give a ****, they'll go with who has performed in the past and what not. Do you really think Greg Maddux deserved his? He led in only two categories among pitchers, assists and range factor. The voters gave it to him so he could get the record. Everyone's ******* bias.

Todd Helton's fielding ranks among NL first basemen:

Fielding percentage - 1st
Range factor - 1st
Zone rating - 2nd

At the same time, Lee didn't even rank in the top half in any of those categories. As is too often the case, the Gold Glove was awarded based on reputation more than actual performance. In other words, Helton was flat-out robbed.

Colorado should have had two winners - Helton and Tulowitzki - both of whom had the award they deserved taken away by clueless voters.

The Gold Glove is a great idea in theory and a horrible idea in practice. The voters keep penciling in the same names time and time again! I'm a Cubs fan and I think Helton deserves it more than Lee (But I'd still rather have Lee on my team. Like I said, I'm a Cubs fan). But the voters have put Lee's name down before, so they will keep doing it. Another good example is Pudge Rodriguez won again. I would not think he was the best catcher, but there you go!

idk the voters think Helton is getting old
I'M A CUBS FAN so I'm very happy about Derrek winning
he probably won because of his amazing comeback from his broken wrist and because he's been winning Gold Glove's lately
2003, 2005, 2007 and hopefully he can break that by winning in 2008
we all know he can

also, not to start any ****, but there could be some speculation that Helton used steroids
from 47 homers to 16? thats insane
look at Holliday, Hawpe, and even Tulowitzki!
they hit almost 30 or more!

... and there's always the possibility that Helton is going blind =D haha just kidding homies
but he seriously is losing it
