How does the 1st amendment portray religion in relation to human behavior? Why does the amendment seek to defend religious freedom? Just some of your views b/c I want to see if I'm on the right track. Thanks.

Cannot force religious beliefs via public policy or create a legal value based on another religion--and make it public policy.

Article One (Amendment) to the Constitution of the United States, effective December 15, 1791: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peacably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Europe had a problem of church governments and you payed and prayed to that church, different believe and you were an outcast.
So our Government was set up where there was a separation of Church and state. This is not that religion cannot have say, (all religions) it is that one religion cannot be made our Nations religion.
Judges have read into this and all religious items are now under attack, if they fall into the public realm

The people have to be protected to choose with free will.
