It is an accounting term. I believe that is what the retailers are referring too. When you are in the black, that means you have money. Black Friday is a money day for them.
There is no need to make this PC as it is not a racial title or comment. It is all about money, honey.

I think black is supposed to mean like when there is a power outage or blackout because so many people are using electricity. Only instead of using electricity and overloading the power companies there are so many shoppers that it causes blackout dates on their credit card or something similar.

No, it refers to the accounting term of "being in the black", meaning there are profits, as opposed to "being in the red" meaning there are losses. Black and red are accoutning colors, and transcend all racial and ethnic barriers. In every language, culture, and society money talks, **** walks.
