I know a lot of people (including myself) don't respect them, because they're only around whenever the cameras are rolling. In my opinion, they treat every situation like a photo op, and I can't respect a man who would do that. That goes especially for Al Sharpton. But I can't help but wonder if people will honor them and their works whenever they die. I also wonder if MLK and Malcolm X dealt with the same problems up until they were assassinated. People are always praised whenever they die for a cause, so would people praise Sharpton and Jackson if they were slain?

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are driven by money, fame and popularity. They use the misfortunes of other people to gain media attention. Very seldom, if at any time have they resolved any issues that deal with racism, discrimination, human rights, etc. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson will never gain the respect of MLK or Malcom X dead or alive.

Al Sharpton has shown once again what a hypocrite he is when he ranted "free the Jena 6" and then stood by Skylar McCormick in Staten Island yelling hate crime. The assault on Skylar and the assault committed by the Jena 6 is the same crime. The only difference is the victim in Jena, LA is white and the victim in Staten Island, NY is black. Both were assaulted and kicked in the head with "sneakers". According to Al Sharpton , it is a "hate crime" to kick a black man in the head with tennis shoes but it is not a crime at all for six blacks to kick one young white man in the head with "tennis shoes".
Al Sharpton is a disgusting excuse for a human being and an obvious racist.

Comment to NorCal.....People do not like Al Sharpton because he is a racist and he would be without his pay check from Corporate American if he did not travel around to incite hatred and racism. He does not want racism to end. He lives off of it. He creates it and he promotes a double standard.

For what ever people want to say about Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, they bring media attention to situations that need to be exposed. They rally because it does uplift minorities by ensuring them that there are other people who are dealing with some of the same issues and are working towards a common goal. I feel that they will be remembered and I certainly hope that they are. I don't agree with everything that they do or say but that goes for anybody. I think people do not like them because most times they bring issues to the forefront and nowadays people like to pretend that there is no racism and there is no need for civil rights but that is BS.

As someone who knows a little more than most of you about jesse jackson and Al Sharpton.I will tell you that yes, they are coming down hard on the rappers and other musicians who use violent lyrics in their music.even the rappers are now fighting back the other day,David banner(whom some of you might know)fired back ,when Sharpton told the rappers to bury the "n" word, the "b"word and the "h"word. But most of you don't know that ,what music label is going to push for socially conscious material?none that I know of even in pop,its sex it up or lose it,most of the music you hear is not what the artist is inerested in producing,it is what the record labels believe will sell cd's. Also be careful what you wish for, because there is the right to free speech,so when you can stop people from using any of the offensive "three words, n word b word h word what else is next? the fact is many parents are relying on the government to raise and protect their kids, which is morally and ethically wrong, you don't have to tune in to,or purchase anything that is offensive to you or your children, parents at some point have to be responsible for how their kids are raised. I grew up listening to rap, does that mean that I automatically, rob, shoot steal or maim people? No its all about parenting. If children can watch DVDs with all of the violence, gore and crude sexual acts in them, whats the inherent difference between that sort of exposure and listening to rap CD's. There are "clean" rappers out there like Lupe fiasco, common, talib kweli who buys their records? or when was the last time you heard them on your local radio? You should not point the finger when you don't have an inkling of what is going on in your soceity. Listen to Al sharptons radio show,he is now reprimanding the rappers, but who ultimately decides what America listens to,its the bigwig music labels.

I dont respect a lot of what they do because they pick and choose issues to protest/complain about...they are race baiters too...like you said ESPECIALLY AL SHARPTON...he sounds like such a fake/fraud...out for the publicity...I wish they would assist on issues instead of calling for rallies (which hardly ever work)...Like you said Malcom and MLK were mourned because they died for a cause...What are Sharpton and Jacksons causes though???

I think they're always where in the middle of big situations bc that's where they're needed....They speak for people who can't stand up for themselves bc they're not "important" enough or famous enough for their voices to be heard...Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson's opinions don't by any means represent the feelings of all black people, but when they speak, whatever it is that they say is definately heard by the entire nation. As for whether either one of them will be honored like MLK... I doubt it - neither of them is anywhere near as eloquent a speaker as he was.

Only if they been dead for many years.

They aren't helping the African/American community. (RE: Jena 6.) They are only hurting it.

They are only doing it to make themselves look good; which they aren't.
