I think that is odd. I mean that is the reason for a public notary, to make the document legal and binding. Maybe they didn't understand the true depth of responsibility you had.

i hate lieing i just feel so guilty afterward so when i was a teen and my parents would ask me something i need to lie about i told them the truth but in sarcasm like "oh yeah i got so drunk dad" because i was saying it with sarcasm they didn't think to ask again and assumed i hadn't done what i had. or i bend the truth, i never really did that much wrong anyway.
