Someone just called me barbaric for believing in them...what do you think?

It's a fact that arranged marriages are much, much more successful than marriages in the West (50% of Western marriages end in divorce).

The only problem I see about an arranged marriage is not knowing whether or not the girl is a virgin. And it's very easy for girls to fake virginity, and those girls don't seem to care about how bad their virgin husband would feel if they lied to them about such a thing, and those girls don't seem to care about starting an entire marriage with a huge lie. It's very sad and disgusting.

Other than that, I pretty much agree with arranged marriages.

I do not believe in them. I would not call you barbaric though for doing so. We are all raised with different beliefs depending on our culture. I was raised to be my own woman, to stand up for what I believe in no matter what, to take care of myself, to work hard to get what I want and to not settle for less. I do not believe that I could be happy with a spouse that someones else has picked for me. I will not settle and I think that I deserve to be happy. Sure you can be happy with an arranged one I guess but I do not want to learn to like someone. I wanted to marry someone that I could not live without. Marriage takes work under the best of circumstances and those problems are easier to deal with when you love someone and know that you can depend on them.

Suppose both of you were in a island, there were nothing there beside both of you. What are you going to do? Try to help each other or kill each other. An arranged marriages is just like this situation. It was sad to marry to someone you do not even know about, but they learn how to get along with each other, because in those time, they were not allow to get a divorce. We all human being, they will learn how to treat each other in their own way sooner or later, and feelings will grow when time went by.

Arranged marriage is fine, depending on culture. Marriages of convenience are not the same thing, but again, depends on culture.

not necessarily a bad thing
since you based the relationship on growing in love, not falling for it,
so lust is taken out of the equation
ans a sense of duty and honer are factored in
there tends to be less selfishness less with this
compared to western attributes where it's all about the self

To each their own..... I don't believe in marriage altogether, but if I did, I'd never want to go through one of those marriages...... better remain single!
