It's very normal, in fact, irregular spotting is one of the common side effects, along with amenorrhea (not getting your period at all). Which basically means it's up in the air - everyone's body reacts differently. When I first started taking depo I would be fine for the first 2 months then in the last month start spotting, which made me freak out and think that I was 'running out' of the hormones too soon, but my doctor assured me that no, that's just the way my body took to it. Over time the spotting will probably decrease and in time you might not get your period at all. It's all a little bit weird to get used to but you just need to remember that it is actually working, you're not ovulating so there aren't any worries as far as pregnancy goes (or a very small amount of worries at least, I think the failure rate is >1%). Some bleed for months, some have a regular period, some spot at odd moments of the month, and some never have a period.
