I watched the movie w/ my Japanese friend which was a terrible idea, becasue when the movie was over he started saying that Japan never attacked the city and hospital and only attcked the ships. He sayed that the movie was a propaganda against the Japanese and how evil they are. Who out there agrees with him and me? Please state what you think?

It is not propaganda. I loved the movie. It made me appreciate what the men and women in the service have to go through. I am Japanese and I found nothing offensive about this movie. I found the were represented in a fair way. I am curious, what specifically does he feel that the Japanese are being portrayed as evil???? How do you think a movie about Hiroshima would be played out? Wouldn't it show how evil Americans are?

Main target was ships, definately. Wikipedia shows the casualties; 2,345 military and 57 civilians killed, 1,247 military and 35 civilians wounded. If Japanese intentionally attacked hospital and city like in the movie, it can't be 57 and 35. And if you meant 2001 film Pearl Harbor, it has many historical inaccuracies pointed out not only by Japanese audience.

I'm Japanese and I saw this movie too. I also found some inaccuracies. One of the funniest thing for me was the scene that Japanese leaders were planning the attack 'outdoor', where some children playing around.

It's a movie so small inaccuracy is not a problem but I felt this movie has a lot.

I am Japanese-American and I cannot tell how many JAs feel strongly about any portrayl of the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. The film definitely oversensationalized the attacks by far, but, in any respect it was very realistic in conveying the reactions of people that day. What your friend may not know is that the Kamakazi pilots were brainwashed and high on amphetamines (they were invented by Japanese scientists to keep pilots awake for long flights), when they attacked Pearl Harbor. They weren't evil, they were tweaking and were told by their leader to do harm. By and far, the Japanese launched a war that would eventually be the end of them.

You should tell your Japanese friend that he is right. The plan was to take out the military by bombing Pearl Harbor, Hickam, Wheeler, kaneohe and Scofield Barracks. Any hit that may have occurred on Honolulu or a hospital would have been an accident and not in the plan. "!Tora !Tora !Tora" will give a more accurate account of what happened. Better yet read the book "At Dawn We Slept".

Of course a movie will embellish the facts. It happens without fail regardless of who or what the movie is about. Look at Titanic, was there really a huge love story behind it? Was there really a little nude modeling action going on? I doubt it. Things are put in movies to make US spend MOOLAH to go see the movie. Producers and directors don't get paid for stating facts, they get paid from ticket sales, ticket sales come from things we WANT to see, not limited to the facts. But I did hear a lot the plot came from actual war vets who lived through it...so maybe they have animosity toward the Japanese for what they've had to live with all these years...who knows. All I know about it is what the books say.

It was a Hollywood movie and was, thus, not entirely historically accurate. However, I don't think the Hollywood producers, writers, or director was trying to say that the Japanese are evil people; they were just trying to make a buck off of what they knew would bring in an audience.

Pearl Harbor, while being a blockbuster hollywood film, is actually incredibly accurate. Most of the subplot and action sequences are taken from the men who lived through Pearl Harbor and actual footage.
Almost all of the jokes, and character interactions actually happened to someone, they are real stories from the survivors collaged into a few characters of the movie. Same goes for the action sequences.

i think of that pearl harbor is between the final video clips I somewhat have seen, the friendship between Rafe and Danny is touching and shows you procedures significant they're to one yet another. it somewhat is a tragic movie that makes you think of of you ultimate buddy and how plenty you will do for him.
