A short term result of these wars was the destruction of the traditional Indian way of life.

This was brought about first by the U.S. Army herding thousands of defeated Indians onto reservations.
Then by the slaughter of millions of buffalo by white buffalo hunters between 1870 and 1885. The Indians had greatly depended on buffalo resources for food, clothing, tools and and shelter.

Once they were confined to reservations and the buffalo were over-hunted to near-extinction, they had none of this.

A long term result of the Indian wars (If you still want it) was the extreme poverty that many Indian people still live in today in the Plains States today.

There is little employment on the reservations. Yet, many Indians today still stay on the reservations or close to the reservations instead of looking for employment and opportunities elsewhere.

This may be due partly to the fears of discrimination by non-Indian Americans which they feel they may encounter if they move.

Some other short term results you could mention were the introduction of cattle into the Plains States in the 1870's. The arrival of European immigrants (Mostly Irish, Germans, Danes, Swedes and Russians) to Minnesota and the Dakotas which increased tremendously after 1872.

Also the publishing of of a book by Helen Hunt Jackson in 1881 about the history of White - Indian relationships in the U.S. called "A Century of Dishonor." The book was partly true but has some biases in it too. For example, not all Whites were enemies of the American Indian. There were still some white people who tried to help the Indians from time to time.
