They both have their advantages.

Skiing is harder to learn for the first few days but easier to master. The first lessons will punish your knees but once you can stay up it gets better. On really icy conditions, the two edges and the two foot balance will make skiing more fun. In my opinion, skiing is best on the groomed runs or in moguls - and that can get old. Backcountry skiing is a better way to ski - Tele (free heel) or Rondonee (lock down heel) are fun.

Snowboarding is easier to learn for the first few days but harder to master. You can injure your wrists or tailbone but no problems with the knees. If you learn to fall first this isn't an issue. I prefer snowboarding as you can have more fun than skiing in the powder, in the crud - basically everywhere except hard groomed runs and icy conditions.

Snowboarding in the powder is unreal - floating over and through the snow. Snowboarding is more constant in different conditions where as skiing requires different techniques in powder, spring conditions, etc. And as for doing tricks, snowboarding is a lot better.

Just the opinion of someone who does both.

I have never skied. But when I wanted to learn one of the two snow sports I asked the guys at work which would be easier to learn. They told me that while snowboarding can be brutally hard to learn at first. Skiing is easier to learn at first because you don't fall down as much. But it can take you 20 years to become a GOOD skier. But in 5 years you can be a really good snowboarder. I didn't have time to waste (I was 38) so I chose snowboarding. It is awesome! I am so glad I learned. It is great exercise and I just love it. Obsessed with it would be more appropriate.

believe me, snowboarding is wayyyy better than skiing. I snowboard right now but used to ski when I was younger. Once I tried out snowboarding I found that it was alot easier and way more fun. Easier cuz theres 1 board to controll, not 2 skinny boards. And its easier to use in my fav place on the mountain, the terrain park!!
