I believe this is Merle Haggard. If not Merle if was Johnny Cash, both country singers spent some time in jail or prison.

on a side note the trivia one I put up that was specially for you was..."the songs you told about prison, about a young man gone astray" was Vince Gill's "Real Mean Bottle" that is a tribute to Merle but almost everyone thought it was Johnny Cash.
