because they would rather be rude and try to make the mentally challenged person feel like they're nothing and so just pity the "normal" people because they have the real disability...of lack of understanding and compassion toward others.

Once again (as you do just about EVERY day) you've posted a question based on 1) bad generalizations about mentally challenged people and 2) the assumption that there is a category called "normal"!

1) Not all mentally challenged people are respectful -- I've met some who are downright nasty!

2) People who are not mentally challenged (your word "normal" just doesn't seem correct) can also be very respectful, or nasty. Everyone is different.

Now, please get over whatever problems you have with the people around you. Clearly if you have SO much friction with them, perhaps you need to examine your own role in that.

Society needs to be more educated about mentally challenged people. Their are some people who don't know that there are many mentally challenged who have anything from depression, bipolar to manic conditions and they are not this way because they want to be. It can happen to anyone, even them, and they would want to be respected.
There are actually still people who think if you see a psychiatrist you are just 'crazy or insane' and there is no hope for you. You are then put in a box and the ignorant stay ignorant about the mentally challenged.
There are alot of people who need help and they are not getting it because they don't want to go to a psychiatrist. But anyone who is, should be respected for trying to help selves.

Probably because the mentally challenged have to work hard at the respect they are using. Where to many that are not challenged have minds that are too willing to to do things 'our way', not the correct way.

Mentally challenged people do not respect everyone. To say this is to disrespect people with cognitive disabilities. People with any disability still have free choice - and that includes the choice to respect people or not.

Your questions are so disrespectful to people who you describe as mentally challenged.

i hate to burst your bubble but not all people that experience a developmental disability are loving and friendly much less all the time. as with any human people form thoughts and feeling that sometimes can be biased and judge mental biasing it one race sex religion age for example and at times you see cranky old men of every age. i think its more of a case of first of general population (wow hate how that sounds) expecting best qualities and also not spending enough time to get to know someone so end up retaining preconceived notions.

It seems our type of respect is not always polite and some disabled people are down right rude. Disabled people are different so "normal" people talk down to us.

good question...it seems the 'innocence' of their minds allows them the freedom to be non-judgemental. It's hard to say, since we don't walk in their mental shoes. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Though I don't agree with how the above person answered (please don't use the F word), he's kinda right.
