Yes, I believe most historians would agree that Abraham Lincoln would be the greatest, not just in the 19th Century but of all of the presidents.

Abraham Lincoln was a GREAT president. No other 19th century president comes close. In fact, many of the presidents of the 1800s were downright awful.

Sorry, Thomas Jefferson fans. The man was an arrogant prig who refused to free his slaves upon his death (as Washington did).

Polk and Jackson were perpetrators of the shameful genocide of native Americans, a dark stain on our history that many still refuse to acknowledge.

Abraham Lincoln was definitely the 19th Century's greatest President and is one of the greatest in our country's history. His leadership truly saved our nation as we know it.

His reconstruction plan after the war was to have mercy on the seceding states in order to heal the Union. Sadly, he did not live to personally implement it.

I agree with you. I think Abraham Lincoln was a great president. Not only did he prevent the US from becoming two separate countries, but he also issued the Emancipation Proclamation, and proved that underdogs can make it to the White House.

I buy into your reasoning on this question and I hope that other people will feel the same way!

It terms of accomplishments and intellect, there are far greater US Presidents than Lincoln.

Lincoln is the obvious one - the most famous, rallied the union in it's darkest hour, freed the slaves, was martyred.

Yes. That would have to go to Abraham Lincoln.
Although Jefferson and Polk would be close.
