there was discussion to have it ratified by the 1st congress after it was adopted; due to this you know have the bill of rights. but if you are talking about change before it was adopted, then that would be the Articles of Confederation which opposed James Madison's federalist papers.

-Confederation - a weak national government, but strong state governments.
-Federalism - a strong Central government working with sovereign weaker state governments.

He doesn't believe any more, he died in 1826. The rules for changing the Constitution are plainly stated therein.

It wasn't meant to be 'changed'. Only amendments added to it.
