I have had my phone for about 3-4 months and i asked my parents for texting. They said no so I asked a month later and again they said no but I said that i would pay for it on my own and i would pay for any over charges but again they say no. The said i have been very responsible with my phone and hows i use it. They said that they would look at textig in about 6 months again. Is there any way i can change there mind on this? Maybe let me try texting for a month? Please help!

Why do they say no?

They're worried about the charges. Each text message costs. They don't want you to get in over your head and they don't want to be saddled with paying your bills for you. Actually, they have your best interests at heart. Give them a month or so and ask again. If they still say no, then give it a rest for awhile.

Texting is a handy thing; but nobody truly "needs" it. We all got along pretty well without it for a very long time.

As a parent, I can understand why they dont wanna get you text msg. Its easy for you to get carried away and go waaaaay over your limit. but also as a parent i realized texting is cheaper than using your minutes if you have a prepaid plan. but if you have a monthly bill then I'm sure you can find a very good text plan. I have 300 text for $5/mo. I never use no where near all mine. you can tell your parents that its an easy way to get in touch with you, if youre in class and they need to get an important msg to you (i know you shouldnt be using your phone in school but its so handy for me to tell my son something in an emergency) or if youre in a situation like a burlar is in the house, a gunman is in school, (hopefully this wont be the situation) but you can sneak and send a text for help and the burglar wont hear you. I know it sounds crazy but it happens. Good luck, hope they get it for you, and if they do please dont go over your limit!

ok...you don't "need" texting...your parents are from a generation that defines "need" WAY differently than your own...show them you WANT it...next month, give them $50 to cover texts (granted, if you are on a plan you probably wouldn't have to pay that much)...they will need to see that you are going to show control (by the way- texting adds up QUICK)...you aren't going to use it while in school...etc...agree to pay your texting charges (as you already have) but SHOW them by plunking down the 50 bucks

good luck!

most txt mssgs cost about $0.15 or you can get a bundle for $10 for unlimited. just say tht its ceaper because most xts can be as long as 150 letters and its about the same amount of letters you would say in a min. well not exactly but just say tht HAHA
