I have windows me. it boots up and shut down.

download Ubuntu Linux.. for free....it puts windows to shame .. it is easy to use. and is just like windows.... point and click you can download it from the link below

- You could try the Windows ME disk itself when the computer is turned on - use the recovery console.
- You could boot into safe mode, start Windows Backup (Accessories - System Tools - Backup) on the Welcome screen click the "Automated System Recovery Wizard" button and create restore disks. Use these disks to boot

ok if it is doing this then it is not worth useing the system to make it's own recovery disks just in case you have a virus in your system files as this will copy over and you will still have the problem.

The problem could also easily be hardware, I have repaired many a computer with this problem last week I had one doing the same and it was a faulty micro switch in the on off button

well, yes you can probably still find free restoration disks for win. me, but this would be from some untrustable download site, i recomend to just buy one from microsofts website, it'll only cost you about 3 to 12 dollars.
