Why do so many people answer gear questions with "buy Burton."

Yeah, Burton makes good gear. But just because it is the biggest doesn't make it the best.

There are lots of good brands out there besides Burton, such as Gnu, Libtech, Ride, Forum, Volcom, Dakine, and many others.

Why do people answer gear questions like they know what they are talking about when they only know the biggest brand?

Sounds like bh is one of those people I was talking about.

Whoever says Burton is always better just because they have been around the longest doesn't really know what makes some gear better then other gear.

Hey bh... if Burton is hands down the best then why does Transworld not rate their boards as #1 every year in their good wood test?

Its also stupid to say that if someone doesn't say Burton is the very best ever then they have a problem with Burton. What's even more dumb is to say they just don't have rich parents to buy them Burton, even though that's not much of an insult anyway. Who cares how rich your parents are?

I never said I don't like Burton. I ride Burton boots and bindings, but I also have Ride bindings, and Ride a Gnu board. I test a lot of boards every year, and have rode almost every Burton, and still chose the Gnu Rider's Choice.

And for the record bh, I could have had a Burton board. I do plan on getting the Malolo for backcountry.

i ride a gnu, and I know where you're coming from. I think those are just the people who are trying to make themselves look cool or sound liek they know what theyre talking about. They probably don't have a real life so they use their time to try and make people think theyre cool online.

Burton is the biggest most hyped brand in snowboarding. Many people especially the all the gear no idea types, buy Burton as they percive it to be the best because it is the most comercial brand and the brand most people have heard of. On the other hand many people wont buy Burton products as they see it as a sell out company and too comercial and therefore uncool. Both these points of view are narrow minded, the truth is there is no one company that is the best in snowboarding and there probably never will be. Burton do make good products although some of there clothing range is rediculously overpriced and im not a fan of there bindings but you cannot fault there boards. Also they are the one brand that truly cators for all riders, they have a great womens and kids selection of products and do a good range of wide boards. But you and i know that when people answer questions and they say buy a Burton as they are the best, they have most probably never ridden any other boards and are biased in there opinion. It just goes to show what a good job Burton does advertising wise that so many people think like this.

Forum is part of Burton...

Just because Burton's been around for a long time, doesn't mean that they're always going to be the best. Sure, they make some good stuff, but their beginner lines are just too pricey IMO. Burton wasn't the first, and the only reason that they can back their stuff up with a great warranty is because their sheer size. Being the largest means more money and more options. Is Winterstick even still around? I know Sims is.

People say Burton because it's the largest company, most people (actual and poser boarders) wear their clothes because it is the most common. Shaun White won gold at the Olympics, rides for Burton...therefore everybody thinks it's hot and the best out there.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Burton, in fact, I like their gear. I'm just saying some facts. It'd be nice if k2 got more hype. Their stuff is pretty good.

The bigger question is how can anyone pick equipment on Brand alone without considering their style of riding. All the big makers have so many different kinds of boards and equipment that it makes no sense to say buy Burton or any other brand without qualifying it with something like...buy a Burton Custom for freeriding. At least that makes a little more sense.

Burton does make a good product, but I think it is more the advertising and the product hype that makes people think they are the best.

There are other brands that are as good or better, have more technology in their products and more people ride them, but they don't have the "name" that Burton does. I wouldn't buy one of their boards just because of the proprietary bolt pattern that only uses 3 screws to hold your bindings instead of 4 screws.

So those of us that know better can buy a better board for less money and know that we aren't buying into the hype - what is wrong with that?

Burton has been around for a LONG time and they make one heck of a product. They say that because when you buy a Burton product you really cannot go wrong as far as price and quality.

People answer the question with Burton because Burton has been making snowboards for 30 years now. If they arent one of the best boards you can buy I think people would have figured it out by now. They also back their products with a warranty that no other company can come close too and their customer services is like no other. They became the biggest snowboard company because they make the best products. Its that simple. If you deny that, then you just have something personal against Burton. Maybe you cant afford it or maybe your parents cant afford it for you.....
