DON'T buy it on ebay or at auction. It's really risky, and a whole lot of people get defrauded that way.

The best kept secret I've found is that a lot of manufacturers (Dell in particular) sell their overstocks and refurbished machines online. You may have to hunt around their site a little, but you can get those machines for half of what you'd normally pay, and the manufacturers usually give a really nice guarantee to go with them for free (since they're overstock or refurbished). I bought my current machine (it's a gaming and graphics PC, high-end proessors and RAM) for $1200 on Dell's overstock site, when an identical one on the main company site cost $2500. The inventory on the overstock sites changes constantly, so if you don't see what you're looking for one day, wait a day or two and check again.

I think Dell is reasonably priced, and they usually have special deals. I wouldn't buy a computer on ebay. Too risky.

ebay, the ones from china are normally bargains and you can not go wrong there, but make sure you dont have any calls from a bloke called gorge asking for bank details.
