I moved into my flat in April. I only just put money in my economy 7 meter last month because of the winter approaching. The E7 meter currently has £11.62. The meter switches on at about 22:30 every night and is off by 6AM. During this time, the actual heaters dont heat up, even though switched on at the wall. I've tried everything to get them working but nothing seems to be doing the trick, and given the the only time i can experiment with it is late at night the window to try new things is small. I'm waiting to hear back from my landlord but i cant stand another night of this sheer winter coldness. I'm using double the amount of electric per day by using a plugin radiator. It seems such a waste when i have £11.62 ready on the E7 meter.

I've thought about switching off the electric on/off, to see if that does anything. The problem is i keep marine fish that need constantly heated water and the previous time i did this i lost electric for two days before it came back on again.

You say the meter (Time switch) comes on at 22:30, how do you know it's on if nothing works?? Have you checked that the mainswitch and breakers are all on for the E7 circuits, the mainswitches are often turned OFF when winter is over, maybe it's not been put back on?? How many heaters are there? If only 2 or 3 then they could have all failed for a number of reasons. You need to get an electrician in to check the system.

I had a similar problem with a timer switch it looked like it was working, turning on and off, problem was the relay switch had burnt out. Once that was replaced it work fine. Get a sparky in the landlord should be responsible for repairs.

at the bottom of the heaters are two small pozi screws undo and remove front cover
at the top of the unit are two dials for regulating heat at the side of these you will now see another switch which is an overheat protection unit reset this and your heaters will work
to reset this press it until it clicks, and switch off first

i agree with hot pink..contact your landlord first and tell him you are going to get an electrician to fix it and you will bill him for the cost..its your landlords duty to make sure your heating is in working order,,,do this asap before winter sets in ..good luck
