Some of that "generation" could survive until the end of the century. But there are many indications that "the end" is much closer than that! (Watchtower 1984 Mar 1, 18-19)

How many will accept the invitation? John's vision recorded in Revelation 7:9 had to become a reality. He saw "a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands." With confidence in the vision's complete fulfillment during the decades of this 20th century the anointed remnant of the bride class have never let up in saying "Come!" Every effort has been made to broadcast the message to all nations. (1989 Yearbook of Jehovah's Witnesses p. 3)

The apostle Paul was spearheading the Christian missionary activity. He was also laying a foundation for a work that would be concluded in our in our 20th century. (Watchtower 1989 Jan. 1 p. 12)

Yea... Im going to have to look that up..

[quote] Some of that "generation" could survive until the end of the century. But there are many indications that "the end" is much closer than that! (Watchtower 1984 Mar 1, 18-19)[unquote]

Obviously, the understanding of "generation" by 1984, isn't the same as they hold now(If I'm correct)...when it says "survive" that indicates a human beings life expectancy.

The premise and conclusion of that statement seems like an inference to a judgement call, basically border line prediction.

I don't say this to degrade the JW, but that's my understanding of the statement. I really need to read the whole article to see what it really is inferring too.

Take Care Everybody.

No.

This question is shamefully dishonest in doctoring the second quote. The actual quote from "1989 Yearbook of Jehovah's Witnesses" reads as follows:
[quote]
With confidence in the vision’s complete fulfillment, during the decades of this 20th century the anointed remnant of the bride class have never let up in saying “Come!”
[unquote]

An honest reader understands this sentence to be discussing the preaching work performed with confidence and persistence during that twentieth century.

Similarly, the questioner's third quote is certainly not a mistaken "prediction", but merely repeats what Jehovah's Witnesses have believed for several decades... that the global preaching work is "complete" to the degree described in Scriptures such as Matthew 24:14. As of 2007, there are less than five countries where Jehovah's Witness ministers are not currently active (but have been in the past and likely will be again).

The questioner's first quote damages his credibility on its face.

The Governing body NEVER predicted that the end was going to come exactly in the 2000. The say, based on the bible, that the end is going to come and that no one knows when the end is coming, only god knows. We do know that the end is close, all the profacies are coming true that where mentioned that were going to come when the end was near. Marco 24:36 say, "No on knows not even the angels or his son, only god." and it goes on talking about that day to come.

First, I assume by the numerous typos that whoever made this up clearly wasn't copying straight from our publications.

Second, no we didn't.
