Why have there been so many riots in Sydney in the last few years? I can think of these ones : Cronulla riots. Redfern riots. Macquarie Fields riots. And that's in the last few years. Is this a growing trend for Sydney and why do you think it is happening?

There were more mild skirmishes than riots. There has been one in Cronulla, one in Redfern and one in Macquarie Fields in recent years. There have been others. I was involved in the anti-Springbok riots and the Darlinghurst Road riot of the first Sydney Gay Mardi Gras. They were fun! Serious and potentially nasty but fun even so.

Don't worry though, Little Johnny's security panic over APEC saw Sydney buy a water cannon, some new prison buses and new red anti-riot police cars. They've never been used and never will be but feel safe just knowing they are there.

Ethnic gangs are becoming a huge problem in Sydney, because there are so many people from different ethnic and cultural backgrouinds. Nobody wants to tolerate each others differences - young people who are having a tough time not fitting in with peers would rather try to "beat" each other up and show us how "tough" they are. God it disgusts me. I hope Australian gang violence never gets as bad as some cities in USA but it looks that way.
