God I hope so, most reality is so scripted it's ridiculous. I want to see a renisance of good sitcoms like Seinfeld, Drew Carey, Home Improvement. Or Football everynight of the week. This is a bad answer, I'm sorry.

Far from never, in fact I think with the Writer's Union strike affecting scripted TV shows, it will likely become the wave of the future as number of TV shows might not survive after this season. Many TV shows are now placed online, and while the producers and networks can profit from that, the writer's contract does not include that as part of their salary, which is I'm sorry to say unfair if they don't get enough profit for what they do.

With the success of reality and game shows during prime-time, we are likely to see a greater emphasis on that because we might see for the first time that reality TV is considered more profitable, especially since advertisers are not going to want to pay for the same old reruns. The bottom line is that whatever is readily profitable must come first.

Whether you like it or not, money is everything in a capitalist nation.

With the Writers Strike going on we will be seeing even more Reality Programing. Some of the Reality Programs have writers but they are not considered part of the striking force.

The Networks will have a lot of dead airtime to fill in the upcoming months due to the lack of readily available scripts.
So they will have to rely on repeats an the cheaply and quickly produced Reality Shows to fill up the airtime.

So you should probably prepare yourself for a whole new wave of Reality Shows !

Unfortunately, I don't think it's quite done yet. VH1 and MTV are, sadly, mostly comprised of reality shows, and more shows are coming on all the time, and have a ton of popularity. I think the "reality" craze still has a few more years left, and I don't know what the next wave will be. It's looking like dramas and late night soaps are becoming popular again, though, thanks to Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives.
