No. The Mayans Calendar, which is not predicting the end of the world in 2012, but the start of a new era on December 21st, 2012. The year 2012 marks the end of the "Great Cycle." When it came to mathematics, time and calendars, the Maya were geniuses. Believing that time repeated itself in cycles.

The chances are very small. There are 3 main theories (at least that I've studied) that say the world is going to end in 2012: Nostradamus, Bible Code, and the Mayan Calendar.
You would think that if more than one source says 2012 is the date, then its true, but look at it from a skeptic's eye:
Nostradamus is bull**** or at least all evidence points to it. His book, the Prophecies, people claim that he predicted both world wars, the September 11 attacks, and more, but if you look at the history, none of the events have been predicted before-hand. His prophecies are written so vague, ambiguous, & "catch-all" so that anything can be interpreted as to been a "actual prediction." His followers will even twist some of the meanings of his words to give evidence of predictions (all after the events happened). Check out

The Bible Code also predicts the world will end in 2012. The Bible code claims that there are hidden messages (of future predictions) in the bible using a computer to "decode" the Torah in Hebrew. However, an Australian mathematician also discovered similar hidden messages of future predictions in the book "Moby Dick", the lyrics of rapper Vanilla Ice, and other books. Read...

The Mayans,... well, they couldn't predict the Spanish coming & killing them off, so what would they know about 2012?
The 2005 book "Beyond 2012: Catastrophe or Ecstasy by Geoff Stray" reviews several theories, prophecies and predictions concerning 2012 and finds where authors have used faulty information or have bent the truth to fit their theories.
Nostradamus and Bible Code followers both used the Mayan calendar as a basis for scaring people into their beliefs.
Does that help?

Hum, as a rule, I think prophesy is a bunch of hooey. However, I must admit the 012 thing makes me a little nervous.
Here is the proponderence of evidence. There are discussions of the comet which "will strike the Planet" in no less then 4 seperate sources. The Mayan Calendar, the Bible code, some Nostrodamus references and - startlingly - science itself. Science knows that in 2012 the earth will line up with the center of the universe for the first time in like 25000 years and, because of gravitational wakes in space, we will be more vunerable to this kind of thing.
However, The Mayan predictions are kind of weird, they predict that in every age peole won't trust the government, there will be droughts and floods and people will make war. Gee, I could predict that and I'm not psychic. Nostrodamus is notoriously difficult to interpet unless you know what your looking for and the Bible code has some people who would debunk it with ease. Science says nothing definitive, but in case your nervous, let me tell you the rest of the prophesies.
The comet won't actually hit us. The world won't end. Each of the three prophetic sources say that God or someone else will divert the comet and humanity will enter a golden age because people will finally realize why they were put here. Kind of a trial by fire. So, no, the world won't end in 2012, even if the prophesies are correct. In fact, things will get better after that. And besides, Prophesy is hooey. :)

No! Many people think that the Mayan calendar predicted the end of the world, but I don't believe it means that at all. I believe that it means the end of an age, and the beginning of another one. I can't wait to see what will be. *sm*

No, but I think something major like a drastic climate change or big event will happen and that may cause the population to decrease.
