78/x=65/100, cross-multiply: 65x=7800 and divide each side by 65.

Well... try 78 divided by .65 because 65% is .65.

so... 78 divide .65... you can change .65 into a fraction... 65/100 divided by 5= 13/20

78 divide 13/20...

you can do this by flipping 13/20 to 20/13 and changing divide to muliply.

78 x 20/13 or .65= 120

78/65% = 78/0.65 = 120

You can double check it by taking 78/120 = 0.65x100 = 65%

OK - so what you are asking is:

x * .65 = 78; so
x = 78/.65
x = 120

Hope that helps.

I learned a cool trick for solving these kinds of problems a few years back. It's a little mnemonic that goes:

is %
---- = ------
of 100

So for this particular question:

is= 78
%= 65
of= x

78/x = 65/100

65x = 7800

x = 120

Hope that helps!
