I'm writing to my uncle in prison and just wondering how long it takes for him to receive a letter from me. He lives in the next state for me. Do they have to open all the letters and read them all the time..is that why it takes a while??

Depends on what state hes in, if hes "high risk" "low risk" and how big the prison is. The prison I dealt with here in Tx, only takes a max of 2 days to get the letter. Lets say the prison gets the letter on Monday, they open all letters except legal mail, look for certain words ie:excape, riot, murder...., then when the letter is cleared the prisoner gets it on Wensday . My cousin was in the prison in the same town I live in and I would mail his letter and he'd get it 2 days later. Hope this helped

At the county jail here, it takes about a month for a letter to be sent out or received by an inmate.

Yep, they have to read them carefully to make sure there are no embedded codes.
