To be honest -- nome of the highly regarded programs will accept you with a 560.

My suggestion is to take the GRE exam. The top PhD programs will prefer that to the GMAT.

There are two benefits to taking it. The first is that they break out the math and verbal scores (Finance departments will care more about the math score). The second is that the average person taking the GMAT is more mathematically skilled than the average person -- so you are likely to get a higher percentile in the math section.

Still -- the very top schools will want you to have a 780-800 on the math portion. Finance PhDs are among the hardest programs to get into. Berkeley (where I got my PhD) only accepts 4-9 students per year out of about 300 applicants.

But schools a little lower down may consider you.
