I auditioned for a role in a play where there were only 6 female parts i managed to get picked for standby actress.

A stand-by actress/actor : in case something happens to the actress/actor, they could be sick or have an accident or break a bone or something and then the stand-by gets the part.

I believe the term is ''stand in''.
You are to be ready or available to act should one of the actresses become unavailable. This means you must know all their parts and lines and in some cases (such as sudden illness) be able to take over a part with the production already in progress.

That's when the lead is indisposed. That is, has dropped out, can't master the part, out of town, sick, drunk, etc.

Basically, you'll have to learn all the lines and moves, just "waiting in the wings" for your big chance.
