I have a bunch of 1971 Kennedy Halves and I want to know if they are silver.

No, they are made from many metals. I don't know about 1971 Kennedy Halves, but coins are made from:

The ones that sound familiar are the ones US coins are made of. Half dollars are not made purely of silver.

They stopped making them in silver in 1964.

look at the edges. The ones that are all silver have just a silver edge, whereas the ones that are composed of alloys have a silver and copper edge.
