the spun-glass Angel Hair that you put on your tree? You would itch for days. Also, remember when you went to look for something under the tree, you would burn yourself on the lights? Glad cool bulbs and Merry lites are available. Ouch!

Sure do. You must be a child of the fifties, as well! Do you remember the strings of lights if one went out, the whole string went out and you had to test every bulb in the string to find the culprit?

We never put angel hair on our trees in our family. We'd use
it for snow scenes on the mantel or under the front of the tree
where we wanted a snow lay out. Or on a table with candles
setting in nice holders. And one year I used it on a divider
shelf in the dining room area where I used the snow scene
that year. I have seen it draped thin over colored ornaments on a mantel. And I've seen it inside a glass bowl with colored
lights and shiny ornaments as well. And I had to be careful not
to cut myself with those tiny hairs. And yes, they would itch, and I'd have to wash my arms or hands off that came in con-
tact with it. As I'd always have an allergic reaction. I never
had the bigger bulbs I grew up with. They introduced the
small twinkling lights by the time I was married. But there was
one Christmas we had some special little lights that were in-
side a string of white lanterns trimmed with gold and some-
how near the connection, those lights caught fire and it was a night when we had a 'Santa' drop by just before that, for some holiday cheer. The Santa had already had his quota for the evening by the time he got to our house. And when the back of that tree started to smoke and flame, you never saw anyone sober up so fast, as that Santa did. He was quite ready to cut his visit short and be on his merry way. Our kids were 5 and 3 then, and didn't quite understand why Santa had to leave so soon and in such a hurry LOL. Luckily we saved the tree, which had been flocked in white that year. We had no clue as to why the lights had a short, and they were new. Ever since, I never keep the lights on too long each evening. And I keep watch when they are.

Our neighbors across the street always had angel hair on the tree. It was beautiful to look at. I wasn't allowed to touch it. We had those lights that look like candles. I don't remember if they got real hot, but you're right about the regular bulbs, yikes!! We had some ornaments that were made out of thin glass in an egg shape with indention's on each side. I used to squeeze the sides together until I broke the ornament. That's the kind of glass cuts that I remember at Christmas!

Here's one for you: Do you remember the old Bubble Lights. they were lights that after they heated up would have a bubble type effect, multicolored. I used to think they were so cool.Kind of like a small Lava light effect. Or someone threw an Alka-Seltzer in the light, it would just bubble away. I did not like that Angel Hair and we always used the tinsel. First it was Aluminum, then they changed it to plastic type.

I still use the angel hair, but not on the tree. I still like icicles and those things end up everywhere, especially on my dog. It's one of those childhood memories I refuse to give up. I love those aluminum trees with the color wheel. I looked for one a few years ago, but they were so expensive I had to pass.

I do remember. Ow did it hurt, worse then a paper cut but somehow you loved it. My Aunt had one of the trees with the color wheel. I thought it was the most beautiful tree I ever saw. Now we just laugh about it!

Yes, I remember that, it was because of those cuts that we switched to tinsel. Speaking of Christmas, I remember having an aluminum christmas tree with a rotating color wheel that would make the tree different colors.
