My College Sent Me A Letter telling me that a computer with my financial aid information and others information was stolen.. They said it was incrypted password on it, as if that was suppose to make me feel safe! So now im thinking since theyre were unresponsible Can I Sue Them? For that?

For one, what 'harm' (I.e. financially, etc.) has this caused you? I would think you do not have a case at all. It is not like the school did this on purpose. If you want to 'sue' somebody, sue the person who hacked into the computer and did it!
Why do you not try to visit your social security office with the letter you received from the school to see if they will provide you with a new number.

Sure. You can sue for anything. I'm thinking about suing people that ask specific legal questions on Y!A. I won't win.
If you discuss your specific case with a lawyer you might.

Well you can't sue them yet. The stolen information hasn't caused any damage to your credit yet. Once there is damage, then you can sue.

You can try. I wish you luck. This is happening all to frequently. My SSN was on the stolen VA computer that was later recovered, so I understand your concern.

You can only sue if your indentity is stolen and if you can prove that is how the criminal got the info.
