Cirrus clouds are the wispy, thin clouds that form high in the atmosphere. There are composed of iced water vapor (supercooled water). You may notice them on a clear day, and especially when a front or storm is approaching. "Mother-of-Pearl" cirrus clouds are the highest reaching form or cirrus, as they can form about 60,000 feet. They can also form with cumulus and stratus clouds, producing cirrocumulus and cirrostratus clouds.

Cirrus clouds are detached clouds in the form of white, delicate filaments or mostly white patches or narrow bands.These clouds have a fibrous(hair-like) appearance or a silky sheen or both.
