My family doesn't invite me to any holiday events. Thanksgiving is fun and I love cooking a traditional Thanksgiving meal but it doesn't seem worth doing (or overdoing) in my case with just 2 adults and 4 small children. I'd like to get some ideas on what other people do when they don't have family or friends to spend the holidays with.

Some of my family members don't agree that I am not married yet (engaged to the father of my children). Others don't like 4 little kids (they are 6 and under) in their house. And all of my friends have family to spend Thanksgiving with.

why don't they invite you? that's kinda rude, don't u think? Maybe you should invite them to your house. Say you're having the big family get together this year. Even if they have to travel, it will be fun.
as for having a dinner for just the 6 of you, then try doing turkey breasts grilled or baked, roasted, whatever instead of the whole turkey. mashed potatoes and gravy and stuffing with a green salad. and dont forget the pie!!!
You have a bunch of kids, that's great. family traditions start when they're young, so, make your own traditions. have them use thier hands and cut out paper turkeys. tell them it's their job to decorate for dinner. make a big deal out of it, find something while they're young that makes thanksgiving out of the ordinary, like Charlie Brown movies or something similar. just remember. you will be a grandma eventually. the big family dinners will be at your house when your kids get older and have their own kids. ;) instill in your children how important family is, and everything will work out in the end. ;)
Happy thanksgiving!!

I would create my own traditions if I were you. Six people is plenty for your own feast. Cook a small turkey or a large capon. If you cook a 10-12 pound turkey you will have plenty of leftovers for turkey soup, turkey pot pie, turkey tetrazzini etc. Have mashed potatoes, a salad, some veggies and rolls. Have the kids make some crafts, we use to make turkeys out of apples with toothpicks, google thanksgiving crafts. Most of all, be thankful for what you do have, a loving husband and children.

How about adopting a sailor or 2? they have a program for the holidays where you can invite a service member who is away from family and alone for thanksgiving and Christmas.

Enjoy your own little family. It will be worth it to cook the traditional Thanksgiving dinner for your fiance and the kids.
You don't have to make a lot. Gosh, I use to cook the dinner with just me and my husband. It was a nice relaxing day!!!
You could even make cornish hens instead of a turkey.
Be thankful for the love of your little family and forget about your rude family.

You have your own family and you should be setting the traditions with them in your own home. I make Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner with all the dishes for 4 of us each year and think it is important to do it.

Why don't you have friends? Have you ever tried to invite friends over? Our gathering was only 6 but with a new baby we are up to 7. We always go all out. It's about being together and doing something special not the number of people.

invite some of your relatives who dont go with the other family members and start your own group! neighbors or old folks who have no where to go would be a "thankful" addition to your group. mix it up. enjoy, and make your own tradition.
