here's a sample problem it mite help :

find an equation for the line that passes through the points (1,6) and (3,-4)
The first step is to find the slope of the line/ You let (x1,y1)= (1,6) and (x2,y2)=(3,-4). The you have M=y2-y1 / x1-x2 = -4-6/ 3-1 = -10/2= -5
which is how u find the slope err... hope it helps :D

Slope = (Rise)/(Run)
So the slope (usually called "m") = (difference in y co-ordinates) / (difference in x coordinates).

In this case
m=(-1-5)/(6- -2)
m= (-6)/(8)
m= -3/4

The slope formula is (Y2- Y1)/(X2-X1). Note that the answer is fractional. For those set of coordnates the answer is -6/8.

OK - slope formula y2 - y1 / x2 - x1

5 - (-1) / -2 -6 = 6/-8 = -3/4

Hope that helps.

OOH FUN!!! let me, let me!!!!:

(6,-1) (-2,5)
SO, you put up something like this for your equation:
-1-5 OVER 6-(-2)
OR
-6/8 which is reduced to

-3/4!!!!!

YEAH MATH!!!! YES I'M A DORK!!!!

well.
-1+-5
__________

6 + 2

equals

-6/8. aka -3/4 aka the slope of those points

hey mate

if you mean gradient, rather than slope then the formula is (y2-y1) over (x2-x1) so the answer will be..

(5-(-1)) over (-2-6)

which equals..

6 over -8

simplified

3 over -4

or 3/-4

hope that helps!
