Abortion should be rare, safe and legal. It is a decision that should be made by the woman, her doctor and if she chooses her family and her god, not by you, me or anyone else.
The best way to prevent abortions is to give honest and truthful sex ed to kids starting in about the 6th grade (which actually reduces the amount of sex, STD's and unintended pregnancies more than those whose sex ed consists of 'don't do it) , to have access to birth control for everyone who needs it and to have an open an honest discussion about sex, the consequences of unintended pregnancies and what it means for everyone involved.
If you truly want to reduce the number of abortions you HAVE to reduce the number of people who don't want to have or can't afford to have children who get pregnant.

I feel it is the mother's choice to abort or carry.
That said , I think there are and should be limits as to when an abortion can be performed.
The limit should be where medical science defines as when a fetus could possibly live on its own outside the womb without help from technology.
After that time abortion would be illegal - UNLESS the mother's life was in danger or the child is so horribly deformed that it's life would be misery.
I do find most "right-to-lifers" stance on calling abortion murder and screaming about how life is sacred quite a paradox when taken in consideration of these same people's support of the death penalty and war - it doesn't square no matter how you may try!
If you don't believe that abortion is right for you then don't have one!

I think it's a good idea if the pregnant mother thinks it should be done, but ONLY if that is the case. I mean, sure, you're ending the not-even-started life of a fetus, but think about it from all angles. Abortion is a form of population control, albeit a gruesome one. Population control is what we NEED now, especially in countries like India.
Anyway, I read something on freethoughtpedia.com (http://freethoughtpedia.com/wiki/Abortion_and_the_Bible) that says that even according to the Bible, life begins at the first breath, since "life" in the Hebrew Bible is synonymous to "breath". If this is truly the case, then abortion should be okay. But then again, if anyone BUT the woman is the one who wants the abortion, rather than the woman herself, then I would disagree with it.
Also, to add, most abortions are made because of unintended pregnancies. If we start giving out birth control facts, instead of just telling people to abstain from sexual intercourse unless they're doing it for the purpose of having a baby (much like the Catholic Church does; they think sex, even inside marriage, is bad if it's not for the baby), then abortions won't be needed as much.
Overall, I believe it is completely the mother's right to decide whether she will abort the baby or not.

This is a sensitive topic and I really think that my opinion varies with the situation. If a mother feels that if she is not going to be able to give the child a good life after giving birth to them, then abortion might be a better choice but however you are still killing a child. nonetheless in some cultures abortion is really common because they believe that technically it isnt considered as murder because the child was never born so therefore it cannot be considered as "living" in the first place. but overall I think abortion should be avoided if possible! but like all things in life there are always exceptions!

I'm not for it. My son's mother was going to abort him without my consent because she didn't need it legally. A fat check and a contract stating she would not have to have anything to do with his raising, followed by her rights getting terminated legally, convinced her to carry my son to term. My life wouldn't have been the same without my son.
I think fathers should have to be notified. Fathers' rights are stomped on in this country and no one seems to care.
Also, education should be mandatory. Not just how to use a condom, but what happens when you abort. Not knowing doesn't serve anyone.

i feel abortion should be mostly a non issue because it being around shows the unwillingness of society to accept responsibility for its own actions.
unless used specifically for a female victim of rape, or in the case of incest, which i believe in most cases turns out to be rape, it is a viable option.
in EVERY OTHER INSTANCE, it should be a non issue because people should only be doing what they are willing to accept responsibility for if it has a negative consequence. if the woman is worried about becoming pregnant, even when contraception is used and on birth control, then she shouldnt be having sex.

The courts have ruled, and rightly so, that abortion is legal and it should remain that way. A fetus is not a viable human life.. Women should have the right control their own bodies.
Abortion has never been a legal issue, it is a moral one. If you oppose abortion then never have one.

I think most people form their opinions on abortion because of religious affiliation. Therefore, it has no place in a political discussion. It's a wedge issue used to distract you from the real issues.

I am a very liberal Democrat and I am against unnecessary abortion. The only time abortion is necessary is when it saves the mother's or a child's life. I am also against other anti-life activities such as abstinence, birth control and war.
The #1 cause of abortion, is, was, and always will be the stigma on unwed mothers from the conservative right. All good, decent, honest, patriotic conservatives with an IQ voer 75 admit this. Both of them!

I'm pro-choice. I feel that each person must make that decision for themselves. I would like to see a greater emphasis put on birth control and realistic education classes for our children instead of the ridiculous abstinence only programs that are failing miserably. I think those who are adamantly anti-choice shoot themselves in the foot by also rejecting birth control education classes for our kids. It's definitely the "want your cake and eat it too" problem for them.
