Fold a paper in half and write down your good and bad on either side. You might be surprised. Then get new friends.

Whenever you talk, does it sound like you are not sure what you are talking about? For example: When a person asks' a question he/she will sound like theirs unceirtainty; of course, he or she is asking a question. But believe it or not, some people TALK with uncertainty. This is a bad habit and usually the person is not aware of it. This is what the world calls No-Confidence zone, but their absolutely wrong. A fool would tell you to have confidence, but only because of his/her ignorance of the human needs.
The Solution.
You can take a xanax, smoke a blunt, or drink some beer to relax your nerves and open your mind to the possibilities of a scheme which will only last temporarly because it has a beginning and an end; or you can do it mother natures way which is eternal! When you speak, act, ask, think, imagine, or listen do it with PRESENSE. Whenever you are speaking with someone istantly be present; dont think nor stereo type at all, let your whole being just be there at the moment, watch how your intuition, confidence, six sense, faith, love and creativity flow right out of you; you will feel an astonishing thrill, like when you have an epiphany or when you ride a roller coaster! Then watch how stange the people around you will really start looking at you!
But you have to keep the PRACTISE alive and well EVERYDAY untill it becomes a habit in your fullest sense. This will also bring you inner peace and give you a much better understanding of the people around you.

In general, people treat you with the respect that you believe you deserve. So if you start believing that you know what you are talking about and start acting that way, it would probably happen less.
But it may be that everybody does not feel this way about you. The friend at work could just be workplace competition. She may treat you like she doesn't take you seriously so you won't take yourself seriously and be a threat to her. And lots of parents are patronizing. So ask yourself if this is really everybody or just a couple of people.

Why do you feel as though you are not taken seriously? Are you the comedian of your circle of friends/family?
Sometimes when we hide behind a persona, people take us at face value!
If you don't show that you have a serious side often, people will not take you seriously at all!
There's two things you can do to rectify this.
Firstly, try talking to your work colleague, your mother, etc, and tell them how you feel! Chances are that they don't know how you are feeling!
You will have a lot more respect for yourself if you do this, and they will also have a lot more respect for you too!
Secondly, try behaving in a more serious manner, especially at certain times, when it is appropriate to do so!
If you show that you can have a serious side aswel as a sense of humour, people will accept it and respect you for that!
Good luck!
