Why is Barack Obama a top contender in the Presidential Race?

like, why is he so popular? And why could he be the next President? sources please, thanx!!

I think that he is receiving a lot of media coverage because he is a very charismatic person, young, and he's the "new face" the other candidates have been involved in politics wayyy to long. Plus, he and Hillary are both receiving a lot of media attention because she is the first woman and he is the first black person to actually have a chance at winning the nomination.
He is also against the oh so unpopular war in Iraq.

There's not much choice in the democratic field at this time, trust me if they have an actor jump, the actor will pull about 20% or more. Reg. demos are not happy with Hillery and I feel that if say an actor like Rue Paul jumped in he would do very well. Take care. Hey that Ron Paul guy running as a republican got 4.5 million bucks in one day, they might even confuse the republicans and get them to vote democratic, you know the ones that can't read well. Ha Ha..Dennis is the man.

Hillary wants him to be her top competitor because she knows he will eventually be exposed as the muslim louis farrakhan supporter that he is and she will get the dem nomination. I do believe this is the lowest point in American history... The top democrat presidential candidates are a muslim terrorist mole( hussein obama) and a communist mole (Hitlery) who accepts illegal money from an enemy of the U.S.(communist china). If either of them wins there will be a revolution to throw them out of office.

cuz he simply knows politics! the usa doesn't need another republican in office since our economy has gone down so far since we have had bush in office. other countries don't respect us cuz of him! obama or clinton will bring us up back up from the destruction that has been caused in the last 7 years. the country is ready for a change, whether it be the first black president or the first woman......one of the two are bound to win!

I doubt he will be nxt president. I think they are just entertaing him with the idea that he may win.

If you have seen what he has done negativly to our country so far, then I am sure that the voters have too.

He's black... and democrats consider ruining this country just so they can say "America is SOO diverse... look at our president... that's never happened before!!"

Barack is a good guy, but this country has for too long now considered something new in the governement to be a persons backround... and not their political ideas.

He is tall, intelligent, bi-racial, handsome, a sitting US senator, and he speaks well. Blacks like him because he can pretend to be one of them, and he doesn't scare white people because he speaks standard American English. He is not a rabble rouser like previous black candidates Sharpton and Jackson.

He will get most of the black votes in the primary because he looks black and can talk the black dialect, and many liberal whites will vote for him so they can brag that they aren't racist, they voted for Barak!

He will not be the next president, as Hillary will probably win the Demo nomination, and if by some miracle he is chosen the Demo candidate, he will get creamed by the GOP.
